Along with Roman Catholics, Anglicans and other traditions, Lutherans follow the Western Christian calendar and use colors to delineate the various seasons and feast days:
Blue: for Advent, to signify waiting.
White: (often with gold} at Christmas, Easter and other festive days to signify joy and purity.
Green: for “ordinary time,” to signify growth and learning.
Purple: for Lent, to signify penitence.
Scarlet: for Pentecost and Reformation Day to signify the spiritual fire of the Holy Spirit.
Crimson: for Holy Week and the feasts of martyrs to symbolize Christ’s blood.
